The Department of Molecular Engineering, thanks to the special grant from the Ministry of National Education and Science (contract no.: 7279/IA/SP/2021), purchased the Thermo Fisher Scientific Apreo 2 S LoVac High-Resolution Scanning Electron Microscope with EDS EDAX Octane Elect X-ray microanalysis.

The Apreo 2 S LoVac is a versatile high-resolution Electron Microscope equipped with a Schottky field emission gun (Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope - FESEM) that enables ultra-high-resolution surface mapping of specimens in both high- and low-voltage modes. To obtain the highest quality images of the examined objects, an electrostatic lens and an immersion lens (high resolution) were used, together with the system of 3 in-column detectors (Trinity In-column detection T1, T2, T3) to create a unique combination.

Moreover, the Apreo LoVac version is equipped with a low vacuum mode for imaging non-conductive materials and slowing down (decelerating) the electron beam, thanks to which the device can study various materials.

In addition, the system has an EDS EDAX Octane Elect detector, designed to measure the chemical composition of the sample surface in SEM scanning electron microscopes, and a Velocity Pro backscatter electron diffraction (EBSD) system from Edax.

All techniques that enable the implementation of tasks at the highest level have been integrated into one common platform enabling excellent materials characterization and advanced chemical analysis.
